40 Mark Twain Quotes That Will Change Your Perspective

Samuel L. Clemens (known by his pen name as Mark Twain) was raised in Missouri, the setting for two of his most famous novels. Mark was an intrepid adventurer and throughout his life he traveled far and wide, yearning for new experiences.

He first piloted a steamboat, he then fought in the civil war and finally he branched out towards California to follow the lure of the American West. In 1861, he hopped aboard a stagecoach determined to move towards the promise of gold and the opportunity to bring his family out of poverty. Here, he worked as a successful journalist and then soon after began to write his own novels.

Most famously, he authored the novels the ‘Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ and the ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’, which are often called the first ‘Great American Novels’ and are still used as study texts for schools across America. With his modern and compelling American literature, Twain became known as one of the most exciting storytellers in contemporary literature with his engaging, satirical and punchy narrative voice.
